Mezzo is an Italian word meaning half, middle or medium, hence the term mezzanine; middle floor. We have taken a popular soft drink not well known in the UK and made it into luxurious Vodka Mezzo just by adding vodka and some heat and this really is a winner. Warming orange and sweetness from the coke make this one of the new classics.
When visiting Germany last year we noticed a soft drink called Mezzo Mix. On closer inspection, it turned out to be a mix of orange juice and Coca Cola. In the interests of science, because it was very cheap, and it was something to scare the grandchildren with, we bought a bottle. It took a few days/weeks to pluck up the courage to try a drop but we should not have been so reticent. It was extraordinarily good and as we all know, you can have vodka and orange or vodka and coke so I thought it might be interesting to mix it all up into a Vodka Mezzo. The recipe for Mezzo mix is almost foolproof, 50/50 orange juice and coke cola but if that’s too complicated for you here is a link to a UK supplier.
Ingredients:
- 60ml Vodka
- 100ml Coke Cola
- Fresh orange juice
Method:
- Put the vodka and coke cola into your Milk Frother and then top up with orange juice to the max mark.
- Replace the lid and then press the start button and wait until finished.
- Meanwhile, heat up the glass using hot water from your kettle.
- When your milk frother has finished, empty the hot water out of the glass and fill with your Hot Cocktail.
- Enjoy your Vodka Mezzo.
If it’s not quite to your taste, experiment. Does it need more or less vodka, orange juice or coke cola? You be the judge.
Mark’s tip of the day:- I’m looking foward to trying this with vanilla or cherry coke. You never know, it might even work with Pepsi 😉
