As the nights draw closer you need something to keep your spirits up and this receipe for grog is the cure. If you’re really feeling the cold use our Homemade Spiced Rum recipe instead of dark rum. You know you want to.
There are dozens of variations on the recipe, this one at Chowhound is fairly typical but has the advantage of including some of the history of Grog.
Ingredients:
- 50ml Dark rum
- 20ml Lemon or lime juice
- 25ml Winter Spice Syrup
- 2tsp Demerara sugar
Method:
- Put everything in your milk frother and then top the liquid level up to the max with water.
- Replace the lid and press start.
- Wait until your milk frother has finished and pour straight into your preheated glass.
- Decorate with a slice of apple.
- Enjoy your glass of grog.
Mark’s Top Tip:– As a variation try ginger beer or even cider as the topping up liquid. You may have to adjust sugar quantities to suit. Sometimes the ginger beer or cider will fizz up for a couple of seconds, just keep your eye on it to make sure it doesn’t overflow. You can always replace the Winter Spice Syrup with a couple of teaspoons of sugar and a pinch each of ground spices such as ginger, cloves and nutmeg.
