Chocolate and orange is a classic combination, a match made in heaven as some would say.
Terry’s know what to do with chocolate and orange so I took inspiration from them. Terry’s Chocolate Orange is a chocolate product created by Terry’s in 1932 at Terry’s Chocolate Works in York, England. The brand has changed ownership several times, and production was moved to Eastern Europe in 2005. Since 2018, the Terry’s Chocolate Orange has been produced in Strasbourg, France, by Carambar & Co, who also own the Suchards brand.
It works and was very tasty but it did take a few attempts to get the ratios just right. I’ve taken the orange element from Cointreau, although Aperol works equally well and gives another dimension to this drink. Try both and see which you prefer.
Ingredients:
- 30ml Bacardi
- 30ml Cointreau
- 1tsp Nutella Spread
- Milk or single cream to fill
Method:
- Put everything in your milk frother and then top the liquid level up to the max with milk.
- Replace the lid and press start. Be careful when first starting your milk frother, it takes a few seconds for the chocolate spread to dissolve so hold on tight until it settles down a bit.
- Wait until your milk frother has finished and pour straight into your pre-warmed glass.
- Enjoy your Chocolate Orange Hot Cocktail.
Mark’s Top Tip. I tried using a square of 95% chocolate from Lidl, and just remembered why it has been in the house for ages, it’s rather bitter and could have done with some sugar. Using the Nutella Spread gave a much better flavour with the additional flavour of hazelnut without adding too much chocolate (as if there is such a thing as too much chocolate!). Try one of the other chocolate spreads for more variations.
Lucy’s Top Tip:– Go the extra mile and add squirty cream all over the top, see how high you can get it.
